Mark Zarkhin
Founder and Chief Investment Officer
Mr. Zarkhin founded Jaffa in 2022. Prior to starting Jaffa, he was head of Global Securitized Products proprietary trading business at Citi and subsequently a senior portfolio manager at Millennium Fixed Income.
Mark is a market veteran in identifying opportunities arising from macro themes and market dislocations in fixed income, producing compelling risk-adjusted returns focused in mortgage and rates markets.
He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science with honors and received an advanced postgraduate degree in Talmudic Law in 2004.
Nathan Lord
Head of Risk
Mr. Lord co-founded Jaffa in 2022. Prior to that, he had led AIG’s underwriting and actuarial teams, including the group that designed, negotiated and executed the 25BN AIG-NICO treaty, the largest insurance transaction in history. His track record spans various lines of business such as underwriting, reinsurance and claims handling.
Prior to AIG, Nathan led the team that introduced Bayesian modeling to the insurance industry at the National Council on Compensation Insurance. Nathan brings decades of experience in property and casualty insurance. He is a sought after speaker at national insurance conferences. Nathan and his team have numerous publications in the field.
He graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Mathematics in 2001 and received his master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Florida in 2003.
Jack Brown
Head of Finance and Operations
Mr. Brown brings over 18 years of financial and management experience as a public accountant, consultant, and C-level executive. He has held management positions in private equity and investment firms, including Chief Financial Officer, Corporate Controller, and Director of Finance.
With a focus on process improvement and in-depth data-driven approach, he has helped multiple organizations drive their performance, and manage growth with fiscal responsibility.
His analytical and financial acumen were honed over years as a forensic accountant, valuation expert, auditor and controller. He is a licensed CPA, with an MBA including years as a Forensic Accountant and Valuation Expert, achieving both CFE and CVA certification. Jack’s attention to detail and communication skills focus on delivering transparent reporting, proper accounting and safety for all company assets.
He graduated from John Carroll University with a BSBA in Accounting and an MBA with a Finance concentration in 2002.
Jon Evans
Head of Actuarial Services
Mr. Evans began his actuarial career at KPMG in 1994. He has diverse experience working for insurers, reinsurers, consultants and brokers. He also spent over 12 years working at the National Council on Compensation Insurance.
He has authored 14 papers on insurance and actuarial subjects, including 5 published in Variance, the peer reviewed journal of the Casualty Actuarial Society.
He is a Fellow of both the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and the Society of Actuaries (FSA), a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA).
