Mark Zarkhin
Founder and Chief Investment Officer
Mark founded Jaffa in 2022. Prior to starting Jaffa, he was head of Global Securitized Products proprietary trading business at Citi and subsequently a senior portfolio manager at Millennium Fixed Income.
Mark is a market veteran in identifying opportunities arising from macro themes and market dislocations in fixed income, producing compelling risk-adjusted returns focused in mortgage and rates markets.
He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science with honors and received an advanced postgraduate degree in Talmudic Law in 2004.
Nathan Lord
Head of Risk
Nathan co-founded Jaffa in 2022. Prior to that, he had led AIG’s underwriting and actuarial teams, including the group that designed, negotiated and executed the 25BN AIG-NICO treaty, the largest insurance transaction in history. His track record spans various lines of business such as underwriting, reinsurance and claims handling.
Prior to AIG, Nathan led the team that introduced Bayesian modeling to the insurance industry at the National Council on Compensation Insurance. Nathan brings decades of experience in property and casualty insurance. He is a sought after speaker at national insurance conferences. Nathan and his team have numerous publications in the field.
He graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Mathematics in 2001 and received his master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Florida in 2003.
Jack Brown
Head of Finance and Operations
Jack brings over 18 years of financial and management experience as a public accountant, consultant, and C-level executive. He has held management positions in private equity and investment firms, including Chief Financial Officer, Corporate Controller, and Director of Finance.
With a focus on process improvement and in-depth data-driven approach, he has helped multiple organizations drive their performance, and manage growth with fiscal responsibility.
His analytical and financial acumen were honed over years as a forensic accountant, valuation expert, auditor and controller. He is a licensed CPA, with an MBA including years as a Forensic Accountant and Valuation Expert, achieving both CFE and CVA certification. Jack’s attention to detail and communication skills focus on delivering transparent reporting, proper accounting and safety for all company assets.
He graduated from John Carroll University with a BSBA in Accounting and an MBA with a Finance concentration in 2002.
Jon Evans
Head of Actuarial Services
Jon began his actuarial career at KPMG in 1994. He has diverse experience working for insurers, reinsurers, consultants and brokers. He also spent over 12 years working at the National Council on Compensation Insurance.
He has authored 14 papers on insurance and actuarial subjects, including 5 published in Variance, the peer reviewed journal of the Casualty Actuarial Society.
He is a Fellow of both the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and the Society of Actuaries (FSA), a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA).
Chris Laws
Director of Insurance Operations
Chris brings nearly two decades of experience in insurance operations, actuarial science, and data analytics.
Prior to joining Jaffa, Chris served as EVP, Chief Actuary, Data & Analytics, and Operational Excellence at Employers Insurance Company.
In his previous role, Chris was responsible for overseeing pricing and reserving for the national insurance book, establishing a customer-first company strategy, and building a digital product and transformation center. He also played a key role in coordinating with the board of directors and served in ensuring adherence to the public company corporate governance standards.
Before his tenure at Employers, Chris held positions of increasing responsibility at AIG, culminating in his position as Chief Actuarial Administration Officer. While at AIG, Chris played a key role in the group that designed, negotiated, and executed the 25BN AIG-NICO treaty and in establishing Fortitude Re, a Bermuda domiciled composite reinsurer.
His academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Florida, where he graduated as co-valedictorian. Chris is also a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
J. David White
Director of In-force Management
David has over 15 years of experience in the insurance industry.
Prior to joining Jaffa, David served as Director and Corporate Vice President at New York Life Insurance Company. There, he spearheaded initiatives to streamline processes and implement rigorous controls across New York Life's portfolio, which included Long-Term Care (LTC), Individual Disability Insurance (IDI), Annuities, Life Insurance, and Group Benefits. He also led actuarial modeling, forecasting, experience studies, and asset-liability management (ALM) teams for the strategic business unit of Long-Term Care.
Prior to his career in the insurance industry, Mr. White served in the U.S. Navy, where he supervised a team responsible for multiple types of computer systems and enforced compliance with quality standards of the Department of Defense.
David holds a Master of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Dallas, where he graduated with honors and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from The University of Texas at Austin.
He is the Vice President of the Actuarial Society of New York and a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS), a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst.
